Description

Flamex PF fabric fire retardant spray is a chemical preparation designed for the treatment of various kinds of textile in order to make them less combustible and to stop rapid spreading of the flames. It has been devised for the bettering of the safety of fabrics and thereby for the efficiency of their ignition resistance with a view to lessening the number of fire accidents.

How Flamex PF Works

When the material is near a flame or some burning body, Flamex PF fabric fire retardant spray reacts to the increase of temperature and liberates chemicals which go into the igniting body and instantaneously extinguish the fire before it is enabled to extend further.

Advantages Of Applying Flamex PF

Extra Safety: Flamex PF fabric fire retardant provides a greater margin of safety in respect of fabrics, and for there is less risk of any accidents due to fire. Compliance: Fabrics treated with Flamex PF will conform to necessary industrial safety standards and legislation in respect to flame-retardancy. Versatility: Flamex PF can be applied to the greatest variety of textile goods, such as garb, hangings and upholstery, consequently a solution for all uses.

By chemically treating these textiles with Flamex PF we may ensure that our house, office or place of entertainment is free from risk of fire accidents and that the necessary requirements of safe-keeping are complied with. By its special properties and versatility, together with its lasting application, Flamex PF brings peace of mind that the fabrics being treated conform to the NFPA 701 Standards.

Applicable Testing Standards:

This product has been through extensive testing. It passes all of these applicable standards:

  • NFPA 255 (Standard Method of Surface Burning)

  • UL 723 (Standard for Test of Surface Burning Characteristics)
  • CA Title 19 (California Code of Regulations

FAQ’s

Is Flamex PF durable?

No, Flamex PF provides long-lasting protection for your fabrics until they are wet washed once or dry-cleaned more than twice.

Can I wash fabrics treated with Flamex PF?

Is Flamex PF compatible with all types of fabrics?

No. Flamex PF is suitable for a wide range of porous and semi-porous fabrics only, and it’s always best to test it on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility. Cannot be used on natural silk, and non-porous fibers.

Does Flamex PF have a strong odor?

It has a slight ammonia odor when wet, which dissipates once dry

How long will the treatment last?

If the treated material and stored in a humidity controlled environment, and has not been washed or dry-cleaned, the treatment can last the lifetime of the material

  3. When applying, start in the upper left corner and apply Flamex PF across from end to end.
  4. Continue working your way down and across while overlapping each pass.
  5. After treating one side of the material, confirm that the opposite side is damp.

  7. Eliminate any folds in order for air to dry the treatment thoroughly.
  8. Do not use on fully synthetic/non-porous textiles.

Identifying Fabric Fibers:

You can learn about fabric content by doing basic burn tests. Take some threads from your fabric and put them in small dishes. Light them with a match. Watch how they burn and smell. Look at what’s left after burning. Check these results against the guide below. This test isn’t perfect but it helps identify different materials. Pay attention to how the threads react when they catch fire.

FIBER REACTION TO FLAME ODOR RESIDUE
Cotton Ignites and burns with Orange-yellow flame Burning paper Grey Ash
Linen Same as cotton Burning paper Grey Ash
Wool Burns slowly with small Sizzling flame
Usually self-extinguishing
Burning hair Crisp, irregular, crushable black bead
Silk Ignites sparking flame Usually self-extinguishing Burning hair Not as pungent as wool Crisp, round, black bead that is crushable
Rayon Ignites readily Burns rapidly Sizzles slightly Burning paper More pungent than cotton Grayish-black ash
Acetate Triacetate Ignites and sizzles Melts as it burns Has orange flame Acid odor, like vinegar Hard, irregular black bead
Nylon Shrinks from heat; melts Bums with difficulty Celery Hard, round, gray or fawn-colored bead
Acrylic Melts as it burns. Fuses as flame is approached Bright sputtering flame. Black smoke Acid-like Hard, irregular black bead
Polyester Fuses and shrinks from flame Bums slowly; melting. Self-extinguishing Heavy pungent Hard, brownish beige bead

How To Perform Fabric Field Burn Test?

You can do a basic fire test on fabrics in the field based on NFPA 701 rules. The test works by holding a flame to the fabric for 12 seconds. After that, the fabric needs to stop burning within 2 seconds. It should not burn more than 4 inches of material. Any drips that fall must put themselves out. This quick test only tells you if a fabric burns really badly. It does not prove the fabric will pass strict lab tests like NFPA 701. To be sure about fire safety, you need proper testing in a certified lab.
